Fear of success

What you will get: Reflections on fear of success

“How much success can you take?”

So it is common knowledge that many people are afraid of failing.

But there is an even bigger fear.
A fear that is often hidden.
A fear that may be holding you back.

Fear of success.

You see…

We have all formed a set of unconscious beliefs. And it may surprise you to know that many people have unconscious beliefs that too much money and success is a bad thing.

What did you learn as a child?

Wealthy people are greedy?
Money is the route of all evil?
Wealth breeds contempt?

Think about it…

Why is it that the majority of people who win millions on the lottery have lost all this wealth again in a couple of years?

It is because their unconscious mind is not programmed for wealth and success. Deep down they believe that money and success is a bad thing, so they somehow find a way to use up all their money.

Don’t get me wrong…

I am not saying that money and success are always the same thing. But clearly one measure of your success it the wealth you create.

So where is your wealth thermostat set?

How much do you really believe you are worth?
What income are you REALLY comfortable with?
What level of success sits easily with you?

During my years as a coach I have encountered many people whose level of ambition is not congruent with their current setting on their wealth thermostat.

So what happens?

They don’t achieve their ambitions.
(Or if they do, they are unhappy when they get there!)

I’ll end this week’s Monday Motivation with one of my favourite quotes by Marianne Williamson.

It’s called Our Deepest Fear

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be?
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

So are you ready to go shine? I know I am.
