A new mountain view and perspective

What you will get: Reflections on breaking old habits.

“Come back you stupid dog!”

These were the anguished words of the dog walker, as his dog ran off towards the top of the mountain.

You see…

The dog walker and his faithful dog took the same walk along the same mountain path every day. But for some reason, today the dog had decided to stray off path and head towards the mountain top.

Reluctantly, the dog walker ran after his hound, climbing higher and higher up the new mountain path.

And to his relief…

He caught up with the dog at the top of the mountain.

And at that moment, the dog walker gasped!

He suddenly noticed the breathtaking view from the top of the mountain.

A view he had never seen before.

He could see far into the distance, noticing sights he never even knew existed.

Sure he walked the same mountain every day. But he had never taken this path before.

And his faithful dog?

He just stood there with his tail wagging, as if to say, “I told you so!”

And it’s true isn’t it…

That many people never go off track. They stick to the same path every day.

And if you keep on walking the same path, the same things will happen. Nothing will change.

And you will never get to see the view from the top of the mountain and the new possibilities that this new perspective opens up in your life.

Problem is…

Humans are creatures of habit. Our subconscious brain, which is responsible for up to 99% of your habitual behavior each day, is quite lazy.

So even if it’s a bad habit (you know the ones I mean!), you keep doing it.

But just as habits form, they can also be broken.

And the first step is to consciously look for small changes you can make.

The different path you can take.
The different people you can meet.
The different activities you can try out.
The different places you can visit.

And as soon as we take that first step of consciously doing something different, we see new possibilities.

Just like the dog walker’s new view from the top of the mountain.

And once you have seen the new view, things will never be the same again. Because you know the new view exists.

So I’m off to explore something new, challenge some old habits and gain some new perspectives.

How about you?

To your success
