The Self Help Industry
What you will get: Realistic reflections on the self help industry .
Watch out, it’s a trap!
Much of the self-help bull**** that is thrown around by so-called experts.
So beware unrealistic claims like…
“This will change your life in just 7 days”
“You will never feel unhappy again!”
“Get everything you want in life without doing a thing!”
They are not true.
Lies. Plain and simple.
The self-help or self-development industry is worth an estimated $10 billion per year in the US alone.
So it’s big money!
And as a result, lots of people with no relevant qualifications and, even worse, no practical experience, often put together self-help programmes with amazing claims of what they can do for you. And they have no evidence that their methods or tools actually work!
And all it takes…
… is some clever marketing and a catchy name and suddenly the new development craze is an overnight success.
But you and I know that most overnight successes are fads – they come and go like the wind.
The truth is…
High-quality self-development programmes don’t make unrealistic claims.
And they are not about the ego of the person who developed them – so if the focus is on the creator of the programme, watch out! (Nobody likes an egomaniac, right?)
And another thing to watch out for is claims that the programme is bigger, better or wiser than anything else out there.
How the hell do they know?
Have they tried every other programme on the market? (I don’t think so!)
Credible self-development training, books and online courses are based on long term evidence of effectiveness.
And they are based on scientific facts, not wild claims grabbed out of the air.
I’ve been working with emotional intelligence theory and tools for over 14 years now.
The tools I use are credible. They are proven. They work.
And in order for any self-development programme to work it takes time, effort, energy and focus from you.
So can a credible self-help course change your life?
Yes, it can.
If you are prepared to be patient.
If you want the change badly enough.
And if you are prepared to work on it long term and not look for a quick fix miracle that doesn’t exist.
The way I see it, is that self-development is a lifetime journey.
So it’s first and foremost about developing a realistic mindset to explore yourself and the world around you.
Always looking to learn.
Always open to new ideas.
Always willing to give it a go.
But at the same time being realistic that the secrets and miracle cures that some self help authors claim to have don’t exist.
Like many other things that give rewards in life, developing yourself takes hard work, dedication and consistency. And a good dose of humility and a sense of humour will also help you along the way.
I’m off to develop myself patiently using some proven tools and have fun doing it.
How about you?
To your success
